56K USB Dial-UP Fax Modem for GNU / Linux (TPE-56KMODEM2)

56K USB Dial-UP Fax Modem for GNU / Linux (TPE-56KMODEM2)
If you are looking for convenience, ease of installation, and good performance (for dial-up anyway), we have the modem for you. Our 56K USB 2.0 modem has GPL drivers and support for all recent distributions of GNU / Linux. With most distributions discontinuing inclusion or support for any dialer applications of which at least one is needed to connect to the internet our dial-up software CDs (or flash drive) have become critical to making the installation and setup of dial-up modems on GNU/Linux possible and for that matter the user experience easy & seamless. Not only do most distribution not include a dailer program in a default installation they aren't including dialer programs in respective software centers either. For those in an area with 3G or 4G cellular service another option worth considering and of which will generally provide faster internet connectivity is our 4G USB cellular modem.

  • Extensive Docs & Easy Installation Instructions for most popular and libre (free) distributions.

  • Works world wide; see the country compatibility list

  • Support for 32 & 64 BIT systems

  • On-board controller and digital signal processor (DSP) for maximum OS support

  • Not dependent on OS-loaded binary blobs, or proprietary drivers-firmware

  • Support for sending & receiving of faxes (protocol V.17, V.29, Group 3, Class 1, check out our support pages for documentation)

Note: While our modem is supported natively across distributions and releases there may be no dialer software included in the default installation of your favorite distribution. Many distributions have stopped including a dialer program and thus dial-up users are forced to download and install a dialer program separately.

Effectively this means that if you are unable to connect to the internet at least temporarily via another means you won't be able to utilize this dialup modem "out of the box". Fortunately this problem is easy to solve. Just let us know what distribution and version you are using in the comments section at checkout. We will then be able to include the appropriate dialer software on CD or flash drive as well as relevant directions on installing the software.

In practice all other recent distributions are also compatible. Feel free to contact us about any questions you may have.

Note: Slackware & Slint 15+ are supported, but there is no dialer in the main repository. A compatible package, wvdial, exists in the Salix Repo however.)

Most distributions don’t include a dialer app upon install & some even in their repos. We’ve packaged appropriate software on CD for many popular distributions and releases. Tell us what release & distro you use in the comment section at checkout.
