802.11N DD-WRT Wifi Router Firmware Installation Howto

Please be aware that we do not recommend DD-WRT, and recommend replacing DD-WRT with a newer 100% free distribution called libreCMC. All prior 802.11N wireless routers in our catalog have shipped with free software friendly chipsets and are compatible.

Warning: These instructions only apply to the DD-WRT compatible 802.11N router available from us.

1. Download the firmware above and extract it to your desktop or a convenient location.

ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2010/08-12-10-r14929/...

2. Connect the PC to one of the router's LAN ports. No other devices should be connected.

3. Set your LAN to a STATIC IP in the same subnet of the router, such as 192.168.1.140 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Disable any device that may be connecting to the router wirelessly.

4. Unplug the power connector from the back of the router.

5. While pushing & holding the recessed Restore button on the back of the router, plug the power connector back in.

6. When the power LED slowly blinks on and off, release the Restore button. The router is now in "RESCUE MODE".

7. Go to 192.168.1.1 and upload the firmware above: dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N12.trx

DO NOT DISTURB THE ROUTER or PC FOR THE NEXT FEW MINUTES. BE PATIENT!

8. After the upgrade, the router will reboot automatically. Give it AT LEAST a minute to be on the safe side before removing the power. Then unplug the power from the router, wait 10 seconds or so and plug the power back in. You should now be able to access the dd-wrt web interface.

9. Return your Net adapter properties for TCP/IP to DHCP "Automatically Obtain IP".

10. Type 192.168.1.1 into your browser and set your username and pick a password.
