We have a part-time opening for one qualified candidate to work in the GNU/Linux support arena. Our company's main focus is on the selling and support of free software friendly hardware (desktops, laptops, and around 100 accessories).
Main Responsibilities:
- packing & shipping products
- assembling & repairing computers
- diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues
- providing basic tier 1 technical support
- respond to customer requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and email (mostly phone/email)
- research questions and solutions using internal and external documentation
- identify and escalate situations requiring attention
Requires:
- 30 hours / week (10:30AM-5:00PM M-F /w half hour lunch break)
- vehicle & drivers license
- skill in diagnosing problems
- good communication skills
- attention to detail
- patience
- basic understanding of free software philosophy vs open source
- basic GNU/Linux administrations skills (ie: apt-get, md5sum, dmesg, lsusb, lspci, etc)
- staying current with the latest GNU/Linux distributions and other free software components / operating systems
Education and Experience
- degree, degree seeking, or related experience and training in troubleshooting and providing help desk support are preferred
