Snares BIOS Upgrade

Upgrading EC/BIOS to version of 1.03.05 (you can't flash 1.03.06 until you have upgraded to 1.03.05)

This image is only for Snares users with a EC/BIOS version prior to 1.03.05.

Warning: Do not follow the directions below unless you have the technical expertise to fully understand and comprehend these directions. Failure to apprehend this warning will risk damaging the system

1. Download freedos (https://www.thinkpenguin.com/files/snares-bios/FreeDOS-1.1-USB-Boot.img)

2. dd freedos to a USB flash drive

You will need to determine the proper device. Usually this can be determined from the size of the disk if there is only one USB connected device of the size which has been inserted.

Run:

sudo fdisk -l

Locate the device (Disk /dev/sdc: 1.9 GiB, 2017460224 bytes, 3940352 sectors). It will probably look like: /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc.
In our case it is /dev/sdc and now I'll modify the line of=/dev/sdX to be of=/dev/sdc and write the image to the blank flash drive (warning: this will overwrite all data on the flash drive):

sudo dd if=FreeDOS-1.1-USB-Boot.img of=/dev/sdX

sync

3. Remove the flash drive and re-insert. Download, extract, and copy the contents of snares-BIOS305.tar.gz (https://www.thinkpenguin.com/files/snares-bios/snares-BIOS305.tar.gz) to the flash drive.

4. flashing
a. Plug in AC adaptor and turn the computer on.
b. Enter CMOS setup to disable "Intel Anti-Theft Technology" if the item is available, reboot, booting from the flash drive.
c. cd to the EC directory, read the readme, and follow those directions (must do prior to flashing BIOS)
d. cd to the BIOS directory, read the readme, and follow these directions next
