Upgrading the Ubuntu 12.04 & 12.10 Kernel to 13.04's 3.8 Kernel

In both ubuntu 12.04 & 12.10 users may experience some instability on some hardware platforms.
These instabilities or bugs can be resolved in some cases by using a more recent version of
the Linux kernel. The following package pins the 3.8.x kernel, firmware, and extras.

Warning: DO NOT USE FOR OTHER DISTRIBUTIONS

Installation

1. Download the package

2. Double click on the u-kern-13.04-upgrade_for_12042_1210_0.1_all.deb package, ubuntu software center should open.

3. Wait a few seconds and click the install button (if 'Package is of bad quality' appears click Ignore and Install).

4. After the install completes, exit, and open Update Manager / Software Updater (go to Dash Home at the top left and type "Update Manager").

5. Click "check" button if prompted, then install updates button.

6. Restart

At this point, you should have a more stable install of Ubuntu 12.04 / 12.10. Please keep in mind
that upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10 is broken at the time of this writing (not due to following these instructions). Also note that it is recommended to uninstall "Apport" using the ubuntu software center as well.

To do this open Ubuntu Software center from the left shopping cart icon.

1. Search for apport

2. Click on automatically generate crash reports for debugging

3. Click remove
