The Penguin USB wifi adapter doesn't depend on binary blobs, require any proprietary firmware, driver, or need NDISwrapper making it one of the easiest adapters for users. To install plug the Adapter into an available USB port and select an access point from your network manager.

Speeds of up to 300Mbps are possible. That is 3 times faster than 802.11G and hundreds of times faster than most Internet connections.

This is not an exhaustive list. Most distributions with a recent release (2010 / 2011) have support out of the box. While most users will not experience a problem users should be aware not all 802.11N routers and devices work equally well together. If you encounter a combination which is problematic please see our documentation for a solution. We have a high success rate of resolving problems between 802.11N devices.

If you are looking to avoid problems and don't need 802.11N speeds (Internet connections rarely exceed 802.11G speeds) then an 802.11G USB network adapter may be a better choice. 802.11N Mini PCIe cards for laptops and Wireless N PCI Express cards for desktops also provide a more reliable and stable connection than USB. The Penguin 802.11N Wireless N PCI Express Card is designed to provide users an easy to install free software compatible solution for desktop computers and servers running a GNU/Linux operating system. More reliable than USB and standards complaint there are no drivers or firmware components to install, binary blobs, flaky intermediary pieces like NDISwrapper, or other proprietary programs. All needed drivers are in the mainline kernel starting from 2.6.29 although 2.6.32 or newer is recommended. This is the best supported card amongst distributions available. A few distributions with minimalist installation options have "out of the box" support such as Debian although may not have the wifi utilities installed needed for configuration and connection. A manual network connection in these cases would be required to install the utilities from your main repository.
