Configuring a TPE-R1400 for use with PenguinVPN 2.0 Wireguard Configuration

If you are looking for a simpler way to get PenguinVPN 2.0 service working on your TPE-R1400 libreCMC router without a ton of manual configurations this set of directions is for you. We've packaged our default PenguinVPN 2.0 configuration explicitly for the TPE-R1400 router, but without a few private keys needed for your subscription. If you've got the OEM libreCMC 6.x flashed to a microSD card and installed in the router already then these are the shorter set of directions you can use to load the default PenguinVPN 2.0 Wireguard configuration.

1. Download the default-wireguard-vpn-config-for-r1400-librecmc6-2024-08-25.tar.gz and make a note of where you are saving it
2. Connect an ethernet cable from your routers LAN port to a computer
3. Open a browser and login to libreCMC's luci web user interface, https://192.168.10.1, there is no password set by default, just click the Login button

Note: You will get a warning about a security issue, this is misleading as it's a self-signed certificate for a router, just click Advanced, and the Accept the Risk and Continue button

4. Go to System > Backup / Flash Firmware
5. Click the Upload archive... button under the Restore section
6. Click the Browse button and locate your downloaded default-wireguard-vpn-config-for-r1400-librecmc6-2024-08-25.tar.gz file, click the Select button
7. Click the Upload button, then the Continue button to confirm you want to restore this default PenguinVPN configuration
8. Enter https://192.168.3.1 into the browsers address bar, then hit enter, login with username root and password 'none', but without entering the quotes

Note: You will get a warning about a security issue, this is misleading as it's a self-signed certificate for a router, just click Advanced, and the Accept the Risk and Continue button

9. Go to Network > Interfaces and click the Edit button next to WGINTERFACE
10. Sign up for PenguinVPN 2.0 subscription and ask for a Wireguard configuration, or otherwise find the PenguinVPN 2.0 Wireguard Subscription information in an email or on paperwork included with the router
11. From the PenguinVPN 2.0 Wireguard Subscription information copy over the Private Key and Public Key in the General Settings Tab
12. From the PenguinVPN 2.0 Wireguard Subscription information copy over the Address into the IP Addresses box, example: 10.124.213.112/32
13. Go to the Peers Tab, click the edit button for Europe
14. From the PenguinVPN 2.0 Wireguard Subscription information copy over the Public Key, Private Key, and Preshared Key
15. Click the Save button, click the Save button again, and finally the Save & Apply button
16. Connect an ethernet cable from the WAN port on the router to a LAN port on an upstream modem or other routing device that has an internet connection
17. Go to System > Reboot and click the Perform reboot button
18. Click on your network applet and disconnect from the network, then click the applet again and reconnect to the network
19. Open a web browser and go to a site like https://infosniper.net/ to confirm that your connection appears to be coming from a city/state/country other than your own
