Removable Storage For GNU/Linux
Hardware That Actually Works
Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre is a distribution designed for users who prioritize software freedom, privacy, and technical emancipation. It is a free software operating system based on Arch with security patches from Debian that excludes packages that violate the principles of free software, ensuring a clean and principled environment. It is built around a 'Long Term Support' model, ensuring stability and security. Hyperbola is also notable for its rejection of the systemd init system, instead opting for OpenRC, aligning with its commitment to simplicity and control. This makes it an ideal choice for advanced users who value a lightweight, secure, and customizable operating system.
- We authenticate Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre's images using GPG and verify the integrity of written media using a set of authentication and quality assurance procedures

- Ships on a fast USB flash drive
- 100% free software
* Please note that while GNU/Linux has support for a lot of hardware not all hardware is created equal and the user experience may suffer on systems that aren't fully supported or designed for GNU/Linux. If you need advice on the best hardware to get feel free to contact our support team.
Debian stands out as a robust GNU/Linux distribution for individuals and organizations prioritizing stability, security, and reliability, all underpinned by community involvement and long-term support. Established in 1993, Debian is among the oldest and most influential distributions in the Linux ecosystem. A significant number of other distributions, such as Linux Mint and Ubuntu, have roots in Debian, showcasing its foundational role in the development of various GNU/Linux-based systems.
One of the distinguishing features of Debian is its traditional non-rolling release model, which makes it particularly suitable for server environments. Once a stable release is made available, users receive updates solely for security purposes. This is great in terms of stability, but it is wise to be aware that it can complicate the installation process on newly released hardware. However, this approach ensures that the system remains stable and reliable in production settings, minimizing the risk of disruptions.
Security and adherence to free software principles are paramount in Debian's development process. The pathway to becoming a Debian developer or package maintainer is rigorous, often involving a multi-year vetting process where prospective contributors gradually build trust through small contributions. This meticulous approach helps uphold high standards within the community, and the majority of packages in the main repository are composed of free software, allowing for a greater assurance of security. While the inclusion of non-free firmware in installation media marks a shift from previous policies, it remains a critical aspect of evaluating the overall security of the distribution.
- The Debian core and distribution is the base of most other major distributions
- A from the ground up distribution with Debian being built from software and source code
- Have questions about installing Debian? Support is available for 6 months from the date of purchase
- Ships on a high quality USB flash drive with solid performance for quick installation
- Prefer a DVD? Just let us know in the comment section at checkout
- Installation media is produced using high quality flash and USB standard compliant drives for maximum compatibility
- Each flash drive is fully verified using a set of procedures to ensure the intended images are not corrupt and fully written to the disk
- For maximum security each image flashed is checked against the developers GPG key
* Please note that while GNU/Linux has support for a lot of hardware not all hardware is created equal and the user experience may suffer on systems that aren't fully supported or designed for GNU/Linux. If you need advice on the best hardware to get feel free to contact our support team.

Careful what you buy- Not all Blu-ray drives are the same! Many can't burn Blu-ray discs and others that can have sketchy support for playing Blu-ray media, but not the Penguin Ultra Slim USB Blu-ray / DVD Writer. Our portable Blu-ray Writer can both play Blu-ray media and features support for burning Blu-ray discs, DVDs, and CDs.
Unlike many "new" optical drives on the market we utilize premium components to ensure reliable performance and longevity. This drive works great for anyone looking to add an inexpensive easy-to-use backup solution to their computer or for playing Blu-ray video discs.
For those interested in Blu-ray for entertainment our USB Blu-ray writer also utilizes the coveted LG BU40N SATA drive and a SATA to USB chip that ensures maximum compatibility with the flashing of third party firmwares. This when combined with third party firmware ensures it's possible to playback most Blu-ray media on the market today. The flashing of third party firmware is both possible, but also easier than with a handful of other drives on the market where this is also possible. This is because there is no locking or encrypted firmware.
Looking for a low cost backup solution? With Blu-ray write speeds of up to 6x and discs capable of storing 100GB it's hard to go wrong. Discs are available in 25GB, 50GB, and 100GB capacities. The drive is also compatible with many popular burning applications for GNU / Linux such as K3B and media / video players such as VLC.
-
A Perfect Companion For Thin & Light Laptops : At 14mm in height the drive fits in any bag seamlessly
-
Burn Discs Fast: Supports Blu-ray speeds up to 6x, DVD+R discs at up to 8x, & CD-Rs at up to 24x

Do you have a need for speed? This USB-C SD card reader supports the latest and greatest SD standard: SDXC. The SD Express bus was released in June 2018 with SD specification 7.0. It uses a single PCIe lane to provide full-duplex 985 MB/s transfer speeds similar to NVME M.2 SSD cards in modern laptops. While SDXC is never going to be quite as reliable for some tasks such as OS boot devices by comparison to larger devices like 2.5" SSD drives and M.2 NVME SSD cards this will none-the-less introduce a great performance boost for tasks that involve sequential reads and writes such as for video, photography, and music.
- Ultra-Compact: Just 1.97 x 0.67 x 0.39 inches in dimension
- Works with modern systems that may have fewer USB type-A ports
- Supports: MMC, RS-MMC, SDXC, SDHC, UHS-1, Micro SDXC, SD Card, Micro SDHC, Micro SD
- Universal Compatibility: Works with all distributions: No dependencies on proprietary OS loaded binaries or drivers
- High-Speed Data: Sync an entire photo album or music library in seconds, with up to a 5 Gbps data transfer rate
- Support for all popular and libre (free) distributions
In need of something smaller? The Samsung FIT Plus is designed to plug in and stay. With it you can expand your storage with a compact flash drive that is seamless and unobtrusive. The penguin edition of the drive includes options for formatting with GNU/Linux friendly filesystems such as ext4 making the drive a better fit for GNU/Linux users looking to transfer large files (those over 4GB), doing routine data transfers between GNU/Linux systems, and backing up data all without running into permission (with the selection of ext4 we'll make sure the ACL bit are appropriately set for maximum ease of use between GNU/Linux systems) or other issues.
We're not going to be holding back any secrets to achieving a smooth user experience either. If you've never formatted a USB drive before or ran into issues like we're describing and want to learn how to format a drive for optimal results check out this great little video.
- Optionally formatted with ext4 and set with the right ACL bits to ensure maximum functionality and use between GNU/Linux systems without having to deal with user permission issues
- Optionally formatted with fat32 so there is no need to install special drivers on any operating systems
- Optionally formatted with NTFS for optimal compatibility on larger drives between GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows systems
When you select the ext4 w/ acl option under file systems our drives work great for performing offline backups of your data: Check out this video tutorial on how to securely perform a backup up & restore of your entire home folder using Déjà Dup even between different distributions and releases (included with many popular distributions).

Fedora is a distribution geared at the desktop and backed by Redhat (acquired by IBM in 2019). It provides an ideal familiar platform for system administrators and others who use Redhat Enterprise Linux, Alma Linux, Rocky Linux, and similar distributions in the enterprise. Fedora has one of the shortest life cycles of any distribution in use today. There is a new version released approximately every six months and each new release is supported for about a year. By comparison Redhat Enterprise Linux with an extended life-cycle support subscription can receive critical security updates for as long as 12 years. By comparison to other popular desktop-oriented distributions the range is frequently closer to 3-5 years.
